Fried French toast is probably one of the quickest ways to prepare French toast. You mix up the egg mixture and other ingredients, dip the bread into the mixture and fry them on a hot griddle right away.

An Overnight French toast or Make-Ahead French toast is made the night before and refrigerated and then baked in the morning. This is perfect if you will be having guests over and don't want to be rushed in the morning for breakfast. You can make these with an egg custard mixture and also add fresh or frozen fruit or raisins to the recipes.

Stuffed French toast is a very decadent breakfast treat made with a sweetened filling between two pieces of bread, dipped in an egg batter and then fried until golden brown. Cream cheese, ricotta cheese and even whipped cottage cheese stand are the main filling for stuffing your French toast recipes and then are sweetened and flavored to your preference.

Best Breads for French Toast

In our experience, a thicker cut bread will work better for French toast than a standard sandwich sliced thickness. Look for breads that are sliced 1/2" to 3/4" thick.

Texas toast, French bread or Italian bread all have a slightly different flavor to them and are sturdy enough to hold together when dipped into an egg mixture and not turn to mush before you bake or fry them.

For another interesting twist, try using croissants for the bread in one of your next recipes. Soft, flaky croissants soak up all of the flavors and taste delicious.
