Product Review

Chicago Metallic 6-c. Nonstick Silverstone Popover Pan
A good popover pan is a piece of bakeware that a well-stocked kitchen shouldn't be without. Read this product review and features of the Chicago Metallic Nonstick 6-cup pan for popovers.

How many times have you not made your favorite breakfast recipe or decided not to try a new recipe because you haven't had the right piece of bakeware? It can be frustrating when you need to substitute and your recipe does not turn out like you intended. Investing in a good quality pan for popovers means having the right tool for the job and can last a lifetime.

Aside from using it for yourself, this baking pan also makes a wonderful bridal shower, housewarming, wedding gift or just a special gift for that person in your life who loves to cook. Who knows, perhaps they will invite you over to share a batch of popovers.

What is a Popover?

Popovers are a wonderful treat and really a one of a kind item. They are by no means a muffin and not really a bread, but are some of the best breakfast and brunch food you can have, in my humble opinion.

They rise light and fluffy and when baked turn out lightly browned, tall and light and airy inside. There is no leavening used in the recipe. They are best served immediately from the oven and taste best with just butter or add your favorite homemade jam or preserves if you want a sweeter taste. You can also stuff popovers with a savory mushroom mixture for a different flavor.

Here is the popover recipe that I still use today.

Why do You Need a Special Pan?

About 10 years ago a friend of ours was visiting our home and asked if I would make popovers for breakfast. I asked him what they were as I had not had them before. He called his mom and got the recipe and we made them that morning. They are heavenly!

Note:  Any diet you happen to be on may be dented a bit, but they taste best when slathered with butter - a lot of butter. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Well, at the time I didn't have a specialty pan to bake the popovers in, so I used a standard muffin pan. While they turned out pretty good and tasted wonderful, they didn't rise very high like our friend explained they should. After a few years I found these wonderful popover pans and now with the right pans for the job, my popovers turn out looking like they should along with tasting great. That is why you need a special pan created for the job. So, what do others think? Read more reviews here.

Cleaning and Care:  Handwashing recommended with warm soapy water and cloth, but dishwasher safe
Material:  Steel with Silverstone Nonstick
Origin:  USA
Warranty:  1 year

Additional Features:

*You can fit 2 pans side by side in a standard oven.
*The cups are positioned farther apart than a standard muffin tin and are held from crossbars. They have a wide lip around the edge so each popover can spread out. Deep tapered cups that are deeper than they are wide promote even baking and better air circulation allowing them to rise high..
*The sturdy cross bars allow you to easily remove the pan from the oven with mitts and not dent the steaming popovers.
*Cleanup is simple with warm soapy water.
*Recipes are included with the purchase of the pan.
