Scalloped Potato Recipe

Scalloped PotatoesA creamy scalloped potato recipe made with golden potatoes, heavy cream, butter, and milk. Serve these potatoes with your favorite brunch menu.

This potato recipe has a very smooth and creamy texture because you use heavy cream in the sauce.

Crushed crackers sprinkled on the top of the potatoes give just a slight crunch and  a slightly different flavor to these scalloped potatoes.

Serve these scalloped potatoes for a hearty breakfast recipe or use as part of a Christmas or Mother's day brunch menu. Serve them with ham, country fried steak, and any of these recipes for fresh fruit.  You may also serve this scalloped potato recipe for an evening meal. Scalloped Potato Recipe

Prep Time:
 20 minutes

Baking Time:  60-75 minutes

Ingredient List:

2-1/2 pounds Golden Potatoes (about 7-8 medium)
butter
salt
pepper
1 cup heavy cream
milk
2 Tablespoons crushed saltine crackers

Bakeware Needed:

1-7" x 11" glass baking dish or larger

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2: Wash and dry the potatoes. Peel the skins with a vegetable peeler.

Step 3: Thinly slice the potatoes and place half of them in a single layer in a 7" x 11" glass baking dish.

Step 4: Dot the potatoes evenly with small bits of butter. Season the first layer with salt and pepper.

Step 6: Place a second layer of the remaining potatoes evenly over baking dish.

Step 7: Again dot the potatoes evenly with butter and season with more salt an pepper.

Step 8: Pour 1 cup heavy cream over the potatoes.

Step 9:  Pour enough milk into the dish until you just begin to see it. Do not completely cover the potatoes.

Step 10:  Lightly sprinkle with crushed saltine crackers on the top.

Step 11:  Bake at 350 degrees for 60-75 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the milk and cream has thickened.

Notes:  The sauce needs to be in the oven long enough to come to a boil in the baking dish, otherwise it will not thicken.

To save time and get even slices, slice the potatoes in your food processor.

This scalloped potato recipe serves 6.
