Building Your Own Website

Have you ever considered building your own website? Here is my story on how I got started and how you can too.

Image of Laura Warnke Hi, I'm Laura Warnke. I want to welcome you to my web site, breakfast-and-brunch-recipes.com and say thank you for taking the time to stop by this page so I can introduce myself.

My family and I have lived in the state of Wisconsin for our entire lives. I grew up on a dairy farm and learned a lot about farm cooking from my mom and both Grandmothers. You can read more about my background and inspiration for this website on this page.

It seemed like when you just finished cleaning up from one meal and it was time to start the next. When I was a teenager during the summer, my mom would tell me to "go make something for the guys", which meant baking sweets or desserts. That soon expanded into making breakfast, dinner, and supper for much of the summer.

"Good"

In 1998, my Grandma passed away and I received her recipe box. Every recipe was handwritten and had a tale to tell. Some had stains from years of use. Some were from friends from years ago. Some were just labeled "good".

A few years before my Grandma died, she had organized the box and it contained all of her best recipes. I could tell the ones that she had held on to for many years, as the handwriting was sure and strong.

In many of the newer recipes, her handwriting was weaker and a bit harder to read. I was fairly young at the time she passed , and although I made a few of the recipes, the box mostly got shelved as I went about my life for the next 7 years or so.

Major Life Changes

In 2006, our son was 3 and I was working full time at a decent job, but I really wanted to stay home with him. I needed to find a way to replace (and hopefully increase!) my current income.

I knew it had to be something that didn't take me away from home, was portable in case we moved, and didn't need a huge amount of start up money. I also needed to be able to work at it nights and weekends, as this was the only time available.

It starts to come together...

I started searching for ways to earn an income working from home and ran into a lot of information on building your own website.

Hmm...freedom to set my own hours, a portable business, and I could be home when my son was done with school for the day, and also contribute to the family income without leaving the house. Okay, where do I start! It sounds good to me!

While researching how to build a website, I came across SiteSell, which is what I currently use to build this site. It promised to deliver what other web hosting companies could not. Full support of their product, almost no downtime of the site, and a great forum to ask all the questions I had.

While I was definitely skeptical, over the course of about 4 months, I started to believe in SiteSell, and its product, Site Build It!

If you are like I was, perhaps you have wanted to be at home for your children and family, but couldn't see a way to make it possible. It is possible, but it doesn't come with out your effort.

If you are willing to make the commitment and work hard, SiteSell will take care of all of the pesky details of your website, leaving you free to write about your passion.
